Foden’s Band are pleased to announce the launch of our latest cd recording ‘A World Within’ featuring compositions from the band’s Composer in Residence Andy Scott

When Foden's Band competed at the British Open in Birmingham on Saturday 4th September 2010, it  also marked the launch of the CD 'A World Within'. The CD features the music of Foden’s Band Composer in Residence, Andy Scott, and it is the first time in Foden's illustrious 100+ year history that the band has undertaken such a collaboration with its Composer in Residence.

The 'A World Within' CD is dedicated to Foden's President Peter Fletcher, and includes many works by Andy that have been heard in Foden's performances over the last two years, including; "Battle of Barossa" (narration from Foden's Vice-President Ivor Stevenson), "Salt of the Earth Finale", "Big Red", "Paquito", "And Everything is Still..." (featuring Lesley Howie) and the title track of the CD "A World Within". In addition, the CD features new works of Andy's that were arranged specifically for the recording, such as; "My Mountain Top" (featuring Glyn Williams) and "Fujiko" (featuring Mark Wilkinson).

An added bonus on the 'A World Within' CD is the premiere recording of Andy's piece "Space Invaders which  was the title of the bands winning performance in Brass in Concert 2009.

Speaking about Fodens Andy Scott said  "It was a few months after the World Premiere of ‘Salt of the Earth’ at the RNCM Festival of Brass 2008 that Foden’s Band approached me with the amazing opportunity to become its Composer in Residence. I jumped at the chance – Foden’s are the best and I had seen first hand in rehearsals and performance (of SOTE) just how dedicated, talented and supportive they were, and continue to be.

The ‘A World Within’ recording documents what I hope will be the first stage of an on-going collaboration between Foden’s and myself. Throughout the rehearsal and recording process it has been very much a team effort from everyone involved, with conductor Mike Fowles leading the way in terms of expertise, attention to detail and enthusiasm!

Each track on the CD has it’s own story which is very personal to the collaboration with Foden’s – the Premiere of ‘Battle of Barossa’ with Ivor narrating, and subsequent performance in Armagh were powerful moments, whilst I was very happy to play a small part in Foden’s winning performance at Brass in Concert with ‘Space invaders’!

So, thank you to everyone at Foden’s for making this recording a reality’

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
