Fodens remain the 'North West Champions' for the 4th year

On Sunday 1st March 2009 the famous Foden’s Band from Sandbach in Cheshire became North West Area Brass Band Champions for the 16th time in their history. Performing at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool against the cream of North West banding, Foden’s  directed by conductor Garry Cutt gave a superb performance of Gilbert Vinter’s “Salute to Youth” to walk away with the first prize.

Foden’s have won the title more times than any other brass band, a record of which they are extremely proud. This years win was the fourth consecutive victory and equals the same achievement by the now defunct CWS Manchester Band who dominated this contest in the 1960’s.

Although the band had pre qualified for the National Championship Finals by virtue of their 2nd placing at the 2008 finals, Fodens took the contest in Blackpool very seriously and are delighted to be representing the North West as current Champions at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2009.

The Band are now looking forward to a hectic concert schedule and to the preparations for their next contest appearance which will be The All England International Masters to be held in Cambridge at the end of May 2009.

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
