Fodens band have won the British Bandsman award of 'cd of the year' for a cd release called 'New Music for Brass Band'

A panel of 4 acclaimed judges assessed all brass band cds released over the year and awarded the title to Fodens, followed by 'Classic Brass' Black Dyke, 'Actaeon' by Cory, 'Music for Battle Creek' Black Dyke and 'Masters of Space and Time' by the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

The judges took into account the quality of the playing, choices of pieces, sleeve notes and presentation.

The cd was conducted by the bands 'Artistic' conductor Bram Tovey who flew from Canada especially for the recording made in May

One of the judges Frank Renton (presenter of the bbc radio 'listen to the band programme') said 'Everything about the cd was outstanding, from the programme choice to the terrifically high standards of musical reproduction by Paul Hindmarsh, as well as a band on great form under a conductor who oozes music from his every pore.'

The recording has reached critical claim outside of the brass band movement with a number of excellent reviews in various music and classical magazines. The cd was produced by 'NMC' and was the first time that the band and recording company have worked together.

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
