 Foden's hand out awards

Foden's annual Patrons Concert was held at Sandbach School on Tuesday 14th February to over 500 patrons of the band. The capacity audience was entertained as the band conducted by Michael Fowles was put through its paces with favourites such as Washington Grays, Ruler of the Spirits, and solos from Mark Wilkinson, Lesley Howie, Glyn Williams and Mark Landon.

The second half of the concert included a number of presentations to players and supporters for their service to Foden's. Former soprano player and librarian Granville Jennings received a framed copy of the latest Patrons 5 CD, which has been dedicated to him. Trustees Val and Alan Bourne received a signed framed photograph of the band as they were wished “bon voyage” due to moving down South.

The band also voted for their annual awards, with Solo Horn Lesley Howie receiving the accolade of 'Player of the Year' and Mark Wilkinson being voted 'Bandsman of the Year.' In addition, Mark’s outstanding achievement for leading the band as Principal Cornet for the past 20 years was recognised with the presentation of a rare framed signed record of Harry Mortimer playing Alpine Echoes in 1941 which was donated by Jimmy Charles.

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
