On the 28th June Allan Withington`s annual Conductors Summer School will take place in Sandbach, Cheshire, hosted by Foden's.

During the course of the week, 12 students from across Europe with get the opportunity to work with the Roberts Bakery Band in full rehearsals as well as a free outdoor 10 piece concert in Sandbach Town Centre on Tuesday 1st July between 12pm and 1pm.

For the last five years the summer school has been organised in conjunction with Soli Brass in Holland and has taken place in Leeuwarden. There are plans to return to Holland but founder and artistic leader, Allan Withington, considered it an ideal time to take the school on tour.

The students will also work with Foden's Band in full rehearsals prior to a final concert commencing at 7pm on Thursday 3rd July where each student will conduct Foden`s in the theatre at Sandbach boys school at a concert themed `Poms at the School` a celebration of great British music. Entry to the concert is pay on the door which will also feature Irish Dancers as well as the winning entry in Foden`s newly announced Composer competition. The ‘typical British’ theme continues as lectures and accommodation will take place at the Bears Head, a vintage Inn on the outskirts of Sandbach dating from 1614.

Also new to the team in 2014 will be Danish media expert, Mette Højen whose lectures will concentrate on the role of the conductor in leadership and the psychology of musical communication.  The course will also touch on all aspects of conducting and programme planning.

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
