Foden’s Band are delighted to announce details of their 7th Open Solo, duet, and quartet competition.  The competition gets bigger each year, with competitors from all over the UK and Europe making return visits.

With sections to accomodate all ages, we are confident that this year's competition will showcase a fabulous array of talent.

Last year's winner of the Blue Riband Open Solo class was Lode Violet, Principal Cornet of Belgium's World Champion Band, Willoebroek.  Lode's prize was to have a solo specially composed by the Maestro himself, Bramwell Tovey.  Lode then went on to perform his solo, accompanied by Foden's Band, at the Festival of Brass at the RNCM.

Once again we are very grateful to Besson for their continued sponsorship,  which helps us award impressive prizes and bursaries. Astute Music and Lions Youth Brass also kindly sponsor various prizes.

Competitors will once again be able to rub shoulders with Foden’s players as they look after stewarding, announcing, ticket sales and even cooking the food!

As Foden's have a concert that weekend, this year's competition is being held on the Sunday, instead of the traditional Saturday. This means that the unfortunate clash with Wychavon is avoided this year - we hope that players who have been unable to attend in previous years will take advantage of this sleight of fate!  We also look forward to welcoming regular competitors from near and far, and promise another day of friendly and exciting competition.

We're delighted to announce the first 2 of our adjudicators:  Professor John Wallace CBE, virtuoso trumpet player and music educationalist, is looking forward to sharing his wisdom and experience and, making his first visit to the competition is Brian Kingsley, orchestral tuba player with Opera North, and tutor of tuba at the RNCM and Chethams.

The closing date is Monday the 4th of September, only 4 weeks away, so please get your entries in!

Details of this year’s competition can be obtained by emailing Fiona Rolfe:  fiona-rolfe@hotmail.co.uk  or downloading an entry form from http://www.fodensband.co.uk/youth-band/solo-contest/

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
