The band has started work recording a new CD to be entitled "Centenary Brass". This is an exciting project which includes items from the winning programme at the recent Brass in Concert competition from Spennymoor and also features solo's from the Australian Brass Virtuoso "James Morrison".

James and the band met in Salford on the 7th of December to record his solos. This was the day after the band returned from a weekend mini tour of Solingen in Germany. Under normal circumstances the band would not take on a recording session the day after a tour but it's not every day you get the opportunity to accompany James Morrison so nobody minded.

During the evening Principal Cornet Mark Wilkinson had time for a brief chat with James which went something like this! "How are you able to play more than one brass instrument?" asked Mark. "No one ever told me I couldn't" came back the reply. "What warm up technique do you use for recording sessions?" asked Mark. James picked up his trumpet and played a short but very loud high note. "That's it" he said. "Fair enough!" said Mark.

Nicholas Childs gave the following snippet on the background to the project and his connection with James Morrison in particular:

"The initial idea of inviting James to record with the band has been in my mind for many years. Around 6 six years ago the Childs brothers toured Australia, during this tour we did a number of Concerts with James Morrison. We appeared on several TV shows and radio interviews. In fact, the Concerts were advertised on TV under the banner of "England v Australia" where they showed Bob and I playing Paganini's "Moto Perpetuo" some 1,450 notes in less than 90 seconds.  However, James would then appear flying through the air one handed playing "Flight Of The Bumblebee", the advert would then finish 'Don't miss this Concert'."
