Soon after taking up the trombone at the age of 13 he was quick to join his first band, Oakdale Silver Band. Having progressed fairly quickly he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Wales in 1999 and a year later became Principal Trombone of the orchestra up until he left in 2003. Gareth Moved to Manchester in 2000 when he was 18 to undertake a BMus at the Royal Northern College of Music. During this time Gareth gained much playing experience having worked with such ensembles as The Northern Chamber Philharmonic, The Kath Dyson Jazz Octet, All RNCM Ensembles, YABB, National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, The Jazz Orchestra of the QE2, many of the regions brass bands as well as projects with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and His Majestys Cornetts and Sagbutts. Gareth also took the baton for himself in his 3rd year at the college gaining top marks in his conducting class and has directed many ensembles ranging from clarinet choirs and brass bands to orchestras and opera productions. Gareth Joined the Fodens Band in October 2004 and now lives in Warrington, Cheshire working as a Music Teacher in nearby Liverpool. He is an avid Manchester City fan and when not in band can usually be found in a local public house watching a match or The City of Manchester Stadium itself supporting his team! |
