Anna
hails from Treorchy in the Rhondda Valley. She started playing at the
age of 12 at school with the Upper Rhondda Brass Band under the guidance
of Leaun Morgan MBE. She then progressed to Principal Cornet of Mid Glamorgan
Youth Brass Band and front row with the National Brass Band of Wales
Whilst at school she played for the Treherbert Band and then joined the
Lewis Merthyr Brass Band conducted by Brian Buckley where she worked her
way up the cornet section to Principal Cornet.
In 1988 Anna studied performance on trumpet under Terry Lax (Principal
Trumpet the Welsh National Opera) at the Welsh College of Music and then
in September 1989 transfered to University of Salford to study for a BA
in Band Musicianship . Whilst at college her cornet tutor was John Hudson
who was the Principal Cornet of the Britannia Building Society. She auditioned
for Howard Snell and joined the front row in 1990 until 1992.
She has
played for various bands in her playing career :-
Desford Colliery Band
as "Bumper Up" to Lynda Nicholson.
Principal Cornet at Wingates, Besses o' the Barn - the first female Principal
Cornet in its 100 year history, Young Ambassadors Brass Band & Barclays
Brass (A band which is made up of Barclays employees).
Repiano at Sellers International Brass Band.
Front Row at Yorkshire Building Society Brass Band.
In 2004
Anna returned to Fodens for a second stint. " I am extremely happy
to be back. A new chapter with Gary Cutt and hopefully a very successful
time. Who knows Fodens becoming winners of the first English Nationals
Champions and National Champions in 2006.
The highlights
of her banding career so far are winning the Europeans Championships in
1992 in Cardiff (Year of the Dragon) with Britannia Building Society ,
Grand Shield with Wingates in 1997 playing Variations on a Ninth and British
Open with Fodens in 2004 playing Contest Music.
Anna
works for Barclays Bank and is due to be married in 2007 to her long time
fiancé Eilir Williams whom she met whilst playing in Wingates.
