On Sunday 25th October members of the Fodens Band led a very well received 'Band in a Day' training course as guests of Trimdon Concert Brass. Organised and funded by the Northern Regional Brass Band Trust, the day was headed by Mark Bousie, newly appointed to the Fodens euphonium section. Mark was ably supported by tutors Mark Wilkinson (cornets), Richard Poole (cornets), Dave Morton (cornets and percussion), Lesley Howie (horns) and Les Neish (tubas). The team were delighted that Chris Gomersall, Principal Trombone of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, was able to join them as guest trombone tutor.

 During the day the tutors took the band, consisting of members of Trimdon Concert Brass and players from other bands around the North East, through their paces on a wide variety of repertoire ranging from Powell’s great march ‘Castell Coch’ to Danny Elfman’s ‘Batman the Movie’. The whole event was concluded with a very well received concert at Trimdon Station Community Centre which saw the band perform under the baton of Mark Bousie and Mark Wilkinson. The tutor’s septet also thrilled the audience with two brass ensembles sets and Les Neish gave an astonishing display of tuba virtuosity in Baadsviks ‘Fnugg’. Prior to the band’s finale of John Miles’ ‘Music’ the Northern Regional Brass Band Trust’s retiring secretary Len Old was thanked for not only his hard work in setting the day up, but also his outstanding long service to banding in the North of England.
