Foden's Junior Band was formed in 2015, run in partnership with the ‘Accent’ Music Education Hub and existing Foden’s Youth Band partners Besson and the Royal Northern College of Music.
The Foden's Junior Band provides opportunities for young brass and percussion players from Halton, Warrington, and further afield, to perform together receiving guidance from world class conductors and performers connected with Foden's Band.
Foden’s Youth Band founder and co-ordinator Ian Raisbeck said “I am delighted that after 3 successful years of Foden’s Youth Band we are now able to expand our Youth projects to include a Junior Band. The opportunity to work with ‘Accent’ Music Education Hub is a great opportunity for us to develop new partnerships within the music education sector having already worked with Love Music Trust in Cheshire East so successfully. All at Foden’s are excited at the prospect of now welcoming this new Junior Band into the Foden’s family.”
The new ensemble meets once a month with opportunities for members to take part in full rehearsals, sectionals, workshops and master-classes. The ensemble is designed for players of grade 2-5 standard, and will give opportunity for progression into Foden’s Youth Band. The rehearsals take place at Lymm High School.
‘Accent’ is the Music Education Hub for Warrington & Halton Local Authorities. Foden's Band Trustee and percussionist Chris Bastock is the manager of the Ensemble and Progressions Strategy for ‘Accent’. Chris said “I am thrilled that ‘Accent’ has the opportunity to work with an outstanding band like Foden’s. This partnership will help to inspire the next generation of brass players”
In November 2015 the band performed their first ever concert (after just two rehearsals) under the baton of Anna Hughes-Williams. Photos from the event can be seen by clicking here
Applications are now welcomed from anybody aged 18 or under and of grade 2 - 5 standard on a brass or percussion instrument and membership is free. More details about the ensemble can be obtained by contacting the ‘Accent’ team: email@example.com on 01925 442097/442610
