Melanie Whyle

Flugel Horn

Melanie began playing the cornet at the age of 11 at the Abraham Darby School in Ironbridge, Shropshire. Here, Melanie progressed through the school’s multi-award winning bands, performing nationally and internationally in various UK and European locations, and also over in the United States at Carnegie Hall, New York, in the winning performance of the 2007 International Windband Festival.


Melanie is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she was tutored by Dr. Roger Webster and Professor John Miller.

In 2009, Melanie was a semi-finalist in the BBC radio 2 ‘Young Brass Soloist’ competition.


Melanie joined Foden’s in January 2011 after enjoying 2 years at Wingates on soprano cornet. After 5 years of service as the band’s repiano cornet player, Melanie was appointed as flugelhorn soloist at Foden’s in January 2016.



Melanie is involved with the band’s youth education strategy in her role as a tutor at the Foden’s Junior band.
