Earlier this month, 7 Fodens members once again embarked on their annual trip to Armagh for a week of rehearsing, masterclasses and social events organised by the 1st Old Boys (Armagh Band).
As always the week was a resounding success both musically and socially with over 80 players attending the week long course from various bands across Ireland. From sectional rehearsals to a German themed beer keller night, the summer school has proven to grow in popularity each year thanks to the stirling efforts of Ivor and Heather Stephenson along with their wonderful and hard working family.
A highlight of the course was a short concert given by the Fodens group in which junior members of the summer school are given the opportunity to play solos accompanied by the group. Fodens would very much like to thank Julie-Ann Stephenson who sat in as a third cornet player and provided fine support for Fodens members Richard Poole and Anna Hughes. This wonderful occasion was also marked with the Beginner and intermediate bands contributing under the directorship of Mark Landon and Toby Hobson respectively.
The course concluded with a gala concert featuring pieces that had been worked on in the sectional and full rehearsals all week consisting of items from '12th St. Rag' to 'Procession to the Cathedral.'
Plans are well under way for Fodens visit to Armagh next February where the full band will perform 2 concerts as well as a dinner time concert to showcase the talent of some of Irelands most talented young players.
