Fodens Youth Band

Posted by Mark Wilkinson on 24 September 2012

On Sunday 30th September the first rehearsal of the brand new Fodens Youth Band takes place in Sandbach. The band has been overwhelmed with applications over the past couple of months and 60 successful applicants will come together to rehearse for the first time this Sunday.

The new Youth Band forms part of Fodens' continued commitment to Youth development; the first performance for Fodens Youth Band will take place on November 3rd following the Fodens solo contest. Last year the contest attracted some 80 entrants and this years adjudicators have already been announced as Les Neish and Harmon Vanhoorne. We are delighted that Les will also feature as guest soloist with the Youth Band in the concert.

Just one week later on November 11th the youth band will perform at Manchester Cathedral as part of a Fodens concert featuring international Trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann and 3 choirs. Speaking about the launch, project co-ordinator Ian Raisbeck said 'Over a year of planning has gone into this project with support arriving from the new Love Music Trust and a partnership with RNCM established in the process. I am delighted that the Band is now ready to go with opportunities to perform alongside Les, Jens and the British Open Champions Fodens Band'.

It has also now been confirmed that Fodens Cornet player Andrew Stephenson (a student at the RNCM) will be the Youth Bands 'Composer-in-Residence'. Andrew is quickly establishing a growing reputation as a young composer, receiving commissions from festivals for a variety of ensembles.

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
