Foden's Band and Cheshire East team up

As part of the Foden's and Cheshire East 'Partnership' Foden's Band have arranged the first 'Inaugural Cheshire East Schools Music Competition' to be held at Congleton Town Hall next month.

The celebration concert, on Saturday July 10, will begin at 7.30 pm with three schools each performing a 10-minute programme of music.

The three schools taking part are:

● Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School – Jazz Band

● Sandbach High School (Girls) – School Choir

● Sandbach School (Boys) – Big Band

Award-winning percussionist Simone Rebello, a star graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, is judging the event and will cast her critical eye over proceedings in the first half of the evening and adjudicate on each performance.

During the second half of the concert,  Foden’s will provide a concert featuring individual musicians from the three schools, who will perform solos with the band.

Certificates will be awarded to all three participating schools at the end of the evening.  Each school’s music department will also receive £500.

The competition winner will be awarded the inaugural Cheshire East Schools Music Trophy.

Speaking about the contest John Barber Chairman of Foden's Band stated 'Foden's Band are pround to be a Partner with Cheshire East and it is hoped the Cheshire East Schools' Music Competition will become an annual event celebrating the diverse and high quality music making within East Cheshire.'

Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: “This a fantastic idea and the competition will give Cheshire’s rich musical talent a real showcase in which to shine.

“It will be a really enjoyable evening of superb music that hopefully will inspire many more youngsters and schools to develop their musical talent and aim for the very highest standards. Cheshire has a rich musical heritage and this event can only enhance it further.”

Cheshire East has provided sponsorship for the event.

Tickets cost £7 (£6 concessions) and are available from Congleton Tourist Information Centre in Congleton Town Hall, High Street (ring 01260 271095) or Val Bourne on 01270 765773

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
