Launch of Fodens Youth Band

Posted by Mark Wilkinson on 25 June 2012

Foden's Band are proud to announce the launch of the 'Foden's Youth Band' to be run in partnership with the brand new ‘Love Music Trust’ and the ‘Royal Northern College of Music.’ The 'Foden's Youth Band' will provide opportunities for young brass and percussion players from Cheshire, and further afield, to perform together and receiving guidance from world class conductors and performers connected with Foden's Band.

The new ensemble will run once a month with opportunities for members to take part in full rehearsals, sectionals, workshops and master-classes. The first rehearsal takes place on September 30th with performances already booked to follow the 2nd annual Fodens Solo Competition on November 3rd and in a self promotional concert organised by Fodens Band at Manchester Cathedral on 11th November.
The Love Music Trust is the brand new music hub for Cheshire East, spear-headed by Sandbach School. Foden's Band Chairman John Barber has been a key figure in the successful hub bid and will now continue to work with the trust in enhancing music provision for Cheshire schools.

Speaking about the launch of the 'Foden's Youth Band' project co-ordinator Ian Raisbeck said 'For the past 15 years Foden's Band have been heavily involved in youth education carrying out several coaching days per year with various music services and youth bands. Fodens recently launched the 'Foden's Youth Patrons' which runs alongside our very successful 'Foden's Patrons Association' and the next logical step was to form our very own 'Youth Band.' The Youth Band will have music commissioned by our new composition team (which will be announced in due course) and will be conducted by Michael Fowles & Mark Bousie. Our new link with Royal Northern College of Music will also enable brass students, composers and conductors from the RNCM opportunities to gain experience with the new Youth Band as well as Foden's Band.'

Applications are now welcomed from anybody aged 21 or under, of grade 5 standard or higher, more details about the ensemble and application can be found at

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
