Training Day in Dolgellau

At the invitation of the Williams family, Fodens Band gave an October workshop and concert for the 3rd consecutive year in Dolgellau, Gwynedd on the 16th October

Held at Ysgol y Gader over 60 local players, both young and young at heart, were invited to work with Foden’s players lead by Glyn Williams. They spent the afternoon in full band and sectional rehearsals working on three pieces that would be the start to the second half of the evening concert under the guidance of Glyn, Helen Williams, Mark Landon, Mark Wilkinson and Andy Rolfe. Looking at the basics of band playing they performed the march Westwood Ho!,accompanied Fodens Band Principal Cornet Mark Wilkinson in a beautiful rendition of Macushla, and finished with an upbeat Malaguena.
In the concert Foden’s Band were on stunning form with guest conductor Gwyn Evans. The audience were delighted by the band’s team of soloists – Helen Williams with Eyes of a Child, Lesley Howie with The Piper of Dundee, Glyn Williams with Catari, Catari and Mark Landon with Hittin Em Up – and music especially chosen for the youngsters in the audience such as A Disney Fantasy and Batman The Movie.
The tour de force of the concert was undoubtedly the final two movements of Suite Gothique that really showed off a Foden’s band firing on all cylinders!
Foden’s Band would like to thank the Williams family for their hospitality for what has become a concert not to be missed in the Foden’s calendar.
For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
