Brass Training Day 2014

Posted by Mark Wilkinson on 29 September 2014

On Sunday 28th September the East Anglian Brass Band Association held its Annual Brass Training Day at the Hewett School, Norwich. Fifty-five delegates from the age of 11 upwards had enrolled on the course and were looking forward to benefitting from the tutors advice and expertise. Delegates were so keen that fifteen minutes before the scheduled start time they were all in their place ready for the day to begin.

Tutors were from Foden's Band. The course leader was Glyn Williams. The sectional tutors were Mark Wilkinson and Anna Hughes-Williams (sopranos and cornets), Helen Williams (flugel horns and tenor horns), Glyn Williams (baritones and euphoniums), John Barber (trombones) and Stewart Baglin (basses).

The music studied was Love Unknown (John Ireland arr. Steve Robson), Song (from Milestone) (Peter Meechan), Three Saints (Goff Richards), Armenian Fire Dance (Goff Richards) and The Black Knight (W. Rimmer).

The day was very enjoyable and constructive. The delegates were very privileged to accompany Mark Wilkinson in the beautiful cornet solo Song (from Milestone).

Association Chairman Christine Wade said “The day was a great success. Delegates comments included among others what a brilliant day, that was fantastic, I’m really glad I came.”

The Association wishes to thank Glyn, Mark, Anna, Helen, John and Stewart for an excellent day.

The Association is grateful to Norfolk County Council, and The Town Close Estate Trust for grants towards the costs of this event.

The 2015 Brass Training Day takes place on Sunday 27th September. More details and booking forms will be available from the Association Secretary in the New Year.
