On Sunday 19th November Foden's competed at the 'Brass in Concert' entertainment contest at the Saga, Gateshead

'Brass in Concert' is regarded as the leading brass band entertainment contest in the World's banding calendar due to the quality of the bands invited to compete. As well as featuring the leading bands from the UK this years line up also included bands from France, Norway and America.

Foden's engaged the services of Dr Robert Childs who has an excellent record at this contest previously winning with Cory and Grimethorpe. As well as conducting the band, Robert was also heavily involved in the choice of music which involved three new compositions and three new arrangements. The music chosen enabled the band to perform a themed programme entitled 'A Celebration of Youth' to celebrate the work that Foden's undertake in this important field.

As always Michael Fowles did a fantastic job preparing the band ahead of Dr Child's arrival.

Despite not winning the contest the band were pleased with their consistent results in the performance, entertainment and programme categories from all the various adjudicators which resulted in Foden's being placed 3rd. This position resulted in the band being the highest placed UK band being beaten by two of our overseas friends.

Foden's would like to congratulate our star euphonium player Gary Curtin on being awarded the best soloist of the day and also David Childs and Prima Vista for binding all the scores for the adjudicators and commissioning the various composers and arrangers for the contest.
