Lions Youth Brass have recently undertaken a workshop with The Foden's Band ahead of their debut performance at Music For Youth and also their third consecutive performance in the Championship Section at the National Youth Championships in April.

The focus was mainly on Phillip Sparke's 'Evolution', although time was spent on other pieces within the bands program.

The morning started at 9.30am with sectional rehearsals led by Mark Wilkinson, Anna Hughes-Williams, Chris Haigh, Mark Bousie, John Barber, Stuart Baglin and Mark Landon. Following these really successful sessions the band reformed and gave a very encouraging run through of Evolution, directed by Mark Bousie.

It was then time for all tutors and players to take a well-earned buffet lunch which had been kindly supplied by all parents of the players.

1.30pm saw the arrival of the bands associate conductor Mike Fowles. Mike has now been involved with Lions for about six years and the players always look forward to his visits with great anticipation as Mike has a great rapport with the players of Lions. Mike really knows how to get the best out of the players. At the end of a very hard working 3 hour rehearsal the band once again gave a very positive performance of Evolution.

Speaking for the band, their Musical Director Nigel Birch commented, "to have a band of the quality of Foden's and Mike Fowles to work with on a regular basis is a great opportunity for me and all my players and it also gives my players an opportunity to seek advice from the finest players within the brass band movement. With the added bonus that our band rooms are only five minutes away from each other means that it is a great collaboration within the local community and one which we will continue to develop."

Foden's band maintains a world class reputation for providing entertainment in the field of brass music with a tradition and unique style Mark Wilkinson
