Death of Ken Davies

Posted by Mark Wilkinson on 1 March 2011

The death, after a long illness, on Sunday last, 27th February, has been announced of Ken Davies.  He was aged 82.

He had a lifetime in brass bands playing for a number which included Markham Main Colliery, John White Footwear and Mirrlees.  However perhaps his longest and happiest spell was when he joined Fodens in 1976 at the invitation of James Scott.

His death was announced on the same day that Fodens secured an unprecedented sixth consecutive win at the North West Regional Contest at Blackpool

His first years at Fodens were on soprano but later on his career blossomed even more when he became a renowned flugel horn player.

After retirement from playing, in 1990, he continued to support the band, being treasurer and later editor of the band’s Newsletter.

Ken will be missed by all that knew him

His funeral is at the Landican Crematorium, Wirral, at 1.30pm on Tuesday 8th March 2011
