Foden's are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pete Meechan as 'Musical Associate.' Dr. Meechan has, in addition to his composing repertoire, been responsible for a number of fantastic brass band arrangements many of which are played by some of the worlds top brass bands. Dr Meechan needs little introduction being regarded as one of the leading composers/arrangers of his generation having previously been the 'Young Composer in Association' at Black Dyke and is a featured composer at the RNCM Festival of Brass in January 2011.
It is with this in mind that the Foden's Band have approached Dr Meechan with the specific role of arranging music for the band's busy concert schedule. Dr. Meechan will be joining the Foden's 'creative stable' alongside composer in residence Andy Scott who's music was recently celebrated on the British Bandsman's 2010 CD of the year 'A World Within'. Commenting on Dr Meechan's appointment the bands composer in residence Andy Scott said 'Pete is an exceptional musician and with this appointment Foden's Band takes a further step into the creative world; displaying a commitment to the creation of new repertoire, both compositions and arrangements. I am delighted that Pete is part of the Foden's team and look forward to working with him'.
John Barber the bands Chairman said 'We are very pleased that Dr Meechan has accepted our invitation to become the bands 'Musical Associate.' Peter will be working with the bands Composer in Residence Andy Scott on a number of exciting projects for the band and we are looking forward to a long working relationship with him'.
Speaking about his announcement Dr Meechan said 'I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity of working with Foden's and their Composer in Residence Andy Scott. Ten years ago I wrote my first work for brass band which they premiered at the RNCM Festival of Brass in 2001 under the baton of James Gourlay - so it makes the new association even more special that it will commence with a performance by Fodens, conducted by James Gourlay, at the 2011 Festival of Brass. We're going to be working on some exciting projects together, including arrangements, concert items and a new concerto for Fodens' principal percussion, Mark Landon."
