On the 25th June Foden's band competed at the 'English Nationals Brass Band Championship' a week after winning the 'Tameside Whit Friday March Contest' for the 9th time in 10 years.
The contest is by invitation only where the Highest 10 ranked bands in England are invited to compete against each other at Preston Guild Hall, Preston with the winning band receiving an invitation to represent England at the 'European Brass Band Championships' to be held in Rotterdam next May
Each band had to perform the same test piece 'Elgar Variations' by Martin Ellerby in the am before playing an 'Own' choice test piece in the afternoon. Each bands placing for each test piece was then added together and the band with the lowest number of placings being declared winners
Despite two strong performances Foden's were placed 2nd overall winning £3000 in prize money
Black Dyke were announced as winners with Brighouse and Rastrick in 3rd, Faireys in 4th followed by Hepworth in 5th and Leyland in 6th

For any conductor and every audience, Foden’s Band is a musical Magic Carpet. It continually takes the listener to places that few other ensembles rarely even approach Howard Snell
