The BBC will broadcast a documentary about saxophonist/composer Barbara Thompson, entitled ‘Battle Against Time’. The programme follows Barbara over four years as she continues her battle against Parkinson’s Disease, whilst still maintaining a demanding writing and performing schedule.
Foden’s Composer in Residence Andy Scott is a good friend of Barbara’s, working on numerous projects, and they initiated the concept of the award-winning ‘Double Trouble’ CD, featuring music composed by Barbara & Andy, performed by James Gourlay, Les Neish, Tubalate & Foden’s Band, conducted by Mike Fowles. Filmed by Barbara’s husband, drummer/producer Jon Hiseman, the documentary includes footage of Foden’s Band in the recording studio, and provides a fascinating insight into Barbara’s world – one that has seen her at the forefront of pioneering jazz-rock ensembles in the 1970’s, to the award of the MBE, whilst everyone is familiar with her haunting saxophone tone on the theme of ‘A Touch of Frost’, which was written and recorded in her home studio.
It is anticipated that ‘Battle Against Time’ will be broadcast on BBC4 in the first week of April, to coincide with Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Week.
