On Sunday 26th February Foden's competed at the North West Area Competition held at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

The 'Area' contest is a qualification contest for the Nationals Finals which are held at the Royal Albert Hall, London in October.

Each of the 12 leading bands from the North West Area performed a set test piece - this year the chosen piece was 'Pageantry' by composer Herbert Howells.

After a solid performance Foden's successfully defended their title and were crowned the 'North West Area Champions' for a record 20th time.

Speaking about the performance adjudicator Dr Roger Webster commented 'No problems with picking the winners, the clarity and detail, especially at the lower dynamic range was excellent. Everything was in its place and it was a clear margin ahead for us.' Fellow adjudicator David Lancaster said 'Foden's was the performance that had the high-quality security in the solo lines, excellent ensemble work and a reading faithful to the score.'

The band were once again directed by Professor Nicholas Childs (a former Musical Director of the band) who commented 'I am delighted to have helped secure another Regional victory for Foden's. It is always good to return to Sandbach and to conduct at this event. Foden's really showed what a superb band they are — so my thanks go to Michael Fowles and the players for the way they approached the contest and for their outstanding performance on the day.
