Mike Eccles

Flugel Horn

Mike began playing cornet at the age of 7 with the Poynton Youth Brass band. He then went on to become a member of the Hazel Grove brass band, and the Cheshire Youth brass band. Since then Mike has held positions at Fodens, Yorkshire Building Society and Hepworth, until joining the Fairey band in 2004. Mike spent the next 11 years with the band, and saw him switch to the Flugel horn, and become the Musical Director of the world famous Acid Brass project.

 

In 2009 Mike completed his BA in music, gaining a first class honours degree, but also being awarded the Harry Mortimer Performance prize. Mike then went on to complete his PGCE with specialist instrumental tuition. Mike is in much demand as a teacher and now teaches all around Cheshire through the Love Music Trust, as well as being the brass tutor at Fallibroome academy and music teacher at Upton Priory School. In 2010 till present, he was appoited the Musical Director of the Poynton Youth Brass Band.

 

In 2016, Mike joined the Brighouse and Rastrick band as the bands Flugel horn soloist, where he spent the next 10 years, before rejoining Fodens in January 2026.
