Purple Prelude
Purple Prelude was composed in 2017 by Ian Raisbeck for the Lions Youth Brass - the title, reflecting the colours of the band uniforms.
The piece features 3 contrasting themes; the first a fanfare style opening full of pomp and ceremony, the second idea is a lively and rhythmical section giving the percussion players some latin inspired rhythms to fit the driving syncopated accompaniment rhythms. The final idea is a slower more reflective theme, giving the band a chance to show a warmer, richer sound.
It is important to note that there are three very distinct styles (as described above). The contrasts between fanfare, lively rhythmic playing and the lyrical hymn style are important to capture.
Dynamics and Tempo should also be carefully observed to produce full effect (some parts are written with different dynamics to others - this is intentional).
During the central section percussion players may wish to alter the printed parts (in a Latin style).
